Darrius Swain, a senior defensive tackle for the Bulldogs, was arrested Saturday on misdemeanor charges of following too closely and driving on a suspended license. It is the second time in three months and third time since January of 2004 that Swain has been arrested for driving with a suspended license.
Richt was not available for comment Sunday, but sports information director Claude Felton said the coach was aware of the incident.
“I’m not expecting any kind of comment from him today,” Felton said.
Swain was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail at 8 p.m. Saturday and released 11 minutes later on $1,500 bail paid by Classic City bonding, according to the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff Department’s official Web site.
If Swain is not suspended for the incident, he is expected to start the Bulldogs’ first game of 2005 in place of regular starter Kedric Golston, who will miss the first game due to suspension.
