Recruits watch Dawgs' 2nd scrimmage Premium Story

ATHENS – Scores of high school juniors, many of whom could wind up as Georgia’s Class of 2006, watched the Bulldogs hold their second official scrimmage of the spring.

As expected from recent scrimmage outcomes, the Bulldog defense continued its dominance over the offense.

“They won today,” said sophomore A.J. Bryant. “They are taking advantage of our mistakes. They just whipped us.”

The day was not without offensive fireworks, however, as quarterback D.J. Shockley took off for as least two long runs while scrambling and Thomas Brown got loose for a long run as well. Des Williams was reportedly the fullback during the long run, which was said to be about a 50-yarder.

Still, the defense had its way nearly the entire day, which is something Head Coach Mark Richt is expecting.

“It is definitely a good sign that the defense is playing well,” said Richt. “Our cornerbacks continue to be dominant, led by DeMario Minter and Tim Jennings. Greg Blue he is a very physical, big hitter, and he is having an excellent spring as well. Will Thompson and Quentin Moses are both playing well, and Josh Johnson continues to make plays. Josh is making some big hits and I would say right now that we better find a way to get him in the game. He has a pension for making a big hit.”

“I don’t know if just hurt ourselves or if the defense just made plays,” said running back Danny Ware. “I would say we missed a lot of opportunities. They were superman today.”

“I think the offense is probably a bit frustrated,” said Richt. “But they’ll get it going. In the past we have had teams that were in the top five offensively during the regular season but really struggled in the spring. There were some highlight plays today, including Thomas Brown’s long touchdown run and the No. 2 offensive unit scored a touchdown also.”
