ATHENS - Georgia reserve defensive lineman Darrius Swain missed the Bulldogs’ Monday afternoon practice because he was in jail, where he remained Tuesday awaiting a court date on probation violation.

Darrius Swain was arrested by University of Georgia police on Feb. 23 on charges of speeding and driving with a suspended license. He was released from jail but re-arrested by the sheriff’s office on Sunday after his probation officer informed the sheriff that Swain’s traffic arrest was a parole violation. Swain must appear before a magistrate before he can be released and no date had been set as of Tuesday afternoon.

Swain’s status on the team is not expected to be affected by this most recent arrest since it is the result of incidents already addressed by Coach Mark Richt. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner said as recently as Monday that Swain is going to be in the rotation at defensive tackle this season. The Bulldogs return to the practice field Thursday evening.

Swain violated his probation from a December criminal trespass case. Georgia disciplined him for that arrest by not allowing him to make the trip to Outback Bowl this year. Richt has already stated that Swain wouldn’t be punished severely for his traffic offense.
