2004 Starter: Russ Tanner (25 career starts)
Tanner will start in 2005. He is beginning to get national recognition for his play and will likely get some votes for All-SEC this summer. Still, the lack of backups at center must concern Georgia fans. Ryan Schnetzer (2 career starts) might or might not be back in 2005. He is considering going to medical school and may not play football in the fall. Getting a football scholarship for the first time ever might lead him to stick around Athens. That would happen if some signees don’t get into school or some current players do not return in August.
Michael Turner, who was ticketed for drug possession in the winter, might not be one of the scholarship players to make it to the fall. Trey Chandler will no longer play football after suffering too many injuries in his short college career. That leaves Nick Jones (15 career starts), the starting strong guard, and a few others to take up the slack if Tanner gets hurt and Schnetzer goes to medical school.
