ATHENS - Junior Jason Jacobs smashed a walk-off two-run home run to lift sixth-ranked Georgia past Mercer 3-1 in 11 innings Tuesday at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs (4-0) have allowed just one run over the last 21 innings and the Bears (9-2) lone run Tuesday came on a wild pitch. Junior Mitchell Boggs (1-0) pitched three shutout innings for the win while Mercer's Andrew Urena (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits over the final two innings.

In the third, senior Justin Niefer drew a walk off Mercer starter Brantley New and then came around to score on a double to left center by Bobby Felmy giving Georgia a 1-0 lead. New pitched the first five innings and scattered five hits and struck out five for the Bears. Georgia junior starter Jason Fellows pitched four shutout innings before giving way to freshman Joshua Fields.

Mercer tied the game in the sixth. Eric Renfroe led off with a double and took third on a wild pitch by Fields. He retired the next two batters before losing Christian Grossman on a 3-2 pitch. Georgia turned to junior Bo Lanier. A wild pitch by Lanier allowed Renfroe to score and make it 1-1. Lanier pitched the next 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit and one strikeout. Junior Will Startup made his 2005 debut and pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout before Boggs came on in the ninth.

Georgia threatened in the ninth when Matthew Dunn (2-for-4) led off with a base hit and then stole second base. Jacobs tried to bunt him over to third but popped it up to the catcher for the first out. Georgia failed to score and had another chance in the 10th when Josh Morris led off with a double. Morris (1-for-3) was intentionally walked twice earlier in the contest. However, the Bulldogs could not bring him home setting the stage for the 11th when Dunn led off with a base hit which brought up Jacobs.

Up next, Georgia plays host to Georgia Southern (2-4) Saturday at 3 p.m. It will be the first of a two-game weekend series and closes out a six-game homestand.
