The questions pops up right after signing day every year for every school, "Who will be our next commitment?" For Georgia,
Brandon Wood
of Haralson County became the answer to that question as he made a commitment today.
"I'm at the basketball game right now," said
Brandon Wood
as he is waiting for tip off for
Georgia
and
Auburn
. "I made a commitment to Coach Garner (
Rodney Garner
) today."
Wood stands 6-1 and 240 pounds and runs incredibly well for a player of his size. He measured a 4.69 forty at 242 pounds at the
Kennedy/CES Combine
last month, and he proves his speed in places other than the football field as well.
"I play basketball and run track too. I run the 100 meters, the 4x100, and do the shot and disc."
When told that it takes an impressive athlete to run the 100 meters at 240 pounds, Haralson laughed.
"Yeah, I get some funny looks and people say I'm in the wrong place sometimes when I line up, but I tell them, 'No really, I can run the 100.'"
At 6-1 and 242 pounds with that kind of athleticism, it's not clear what position he will play on the next level, and it doesn't matter to Wood.
"They're bringing me in at defensive end first. I like playing running back too, but I could be a linebacker though too. I don't really care; It doesn't even matter. I just want to play."
Wood is happy to get his decision out of the way early.
"Georgia's the college I've always dreamed of playing, and I wanted to get the decision out of the way so I can concentrate on my academic stuff."
If you haven't seen Wood in action, he is a fun player to watch. It's hard to believe watching him play running back that he is as big as he is. He's very similar to Georgia's Class of 2004 signee
Charles Johnson
who did a little bit of everything for Hawkinsville as well.
