Dawgs don't get over 50 again - lose to Hogs

Georgia, whose defense seems to be enough to win games in the SEC, could not score enough points to stay with Arkansas and lost 62-47 in Fayetteville. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-9 in SEC play – their worst start to an SEC season since the 1976-77 season.

The Bulldogs were without their leading scorer, Levi Stukes, for the third time this season. He continues to struggle with an ankle injury that has hampered him since late January.

Freshman Channing Toney led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 while point guard Sundiata Gaines managed 12. No other Dawg scored more than six points. The Bulldogs also did not get to the free throw line against Arkansas. They shot only four free throws (making only one) compared to the Hogs’ 16 shots.

Georgia fought hard to stay in the game during the first half. They went into the locker room down only six at 27-21. But up 21-17 a few minutes earlier, the Bulldogs allowed Arkansas to end the half with a ten-point run – they were not able to recover. Georgia went nearly six minutes in the second half without scoring a field goal. That stretch sealed thier fate.

It is the fourth time this season Georgia has managed 47 points in a contest. The Bulldogs have now failed to score 50 points in five of their contests – all five were losses and four of them were on the road.

The Bulldogs’ offensive woes, particularly on the road, continue with no end in sight. Georgia is now averaging 49.8 points on the road in SEC play while allowing 68. The task gets no easier for Georgia – they play at Kentucky on Saturday.

Georgia’s lack of depth, their youth, and inexperience, and even the Bulldogs’ level of skill all have been well documented. All of those factors are evident in conference play, particularly on the road. The effort these scrappy Dawgs give is all a coach can ask for, but their energy eventually runs out. Georgia seems too tired to finish games competitively in the SEC.
