Weather could alter practice plans for Dawgs

ATHENS – Winter weather could start playing a nasty role in Georgia’s Outback Bowl preparations.

The Bulldogs completed their fourth practice since Friday this morning with no major news to report. Georgia practiced in shoulder pads and shorts. However, poor weather could complicate matters later today and into next week.

Reports indicate winter weather on the way from North Alabama. A mix of snow and rain has already hit extreme west Atlanta and appears on the way to the Classic City.

The Bulldogs practiced a bit longer than expected in the morning because of concerns on Head Coach Mark Richt’s part about the winter weather rolling into North Georgia.

“I know some weather is rolling our way,” said Richt Friday. “We’ll kind of be at the mercy of the weather.”

Georgia does not have an indoor practice facility and have used the Falcons’ training center in the past. However, the facility is not available this week, and the Bulldogs might be forced into the Ramsey Center if the weather gets severe.

“As a player it’s always a plus to go to Ramsey because you don’t have to beat up on your body. I am sure the coaches don’t want to do that because they want full speed work. But even if we have to go to Ramsey, you can accomplish something with the right mind set. You can get a lot of mental work done in there,” said junior defensive tackle Kedric Golston.

Georgia is scheduled to practice again at 3 PM, and the forecast calls for possible snow flurries and 24 mile per hour wind. The Bulldogs are expected to have a shortened practice session this afternoon.
