News and Notes: SEC Baseball Day 3

HOOVER – Georgia entered its third day at the SEC Baseball Tournament facing Florida and elimination. Here are a few news and notes from around the game.

There was consensus after yesterday’s win over LSU that Georgia will probably host a NCAA Super Regional. Georgia’s win over the Tigers means that they now have 10 wins over teams ranked in the top 25.

But with their poor offensive performance and with all of the other talented programs out there the Bulldogs will have to wait for the NCAA Committee to decide what they will do.

The selections will be made live on ESPN at 3:10 PM.

"We definitely have to be considered for a national seed based on what we did the entire season and not just what happened here in the SEC Tournament."

---

Since the SEC started its baseball tournament in 1977. No team has ever advanced to the past the 2nd game of an 8 team tournament by scoring only one run until Georgia did it yesterday against LSU.

Mississippi State advanced with a 1-0 win over Auburn in the 1995 Western Division Tournament in Starkville, however. But that Tournament featured only the six Western Division schools.

---

Attendance has been horrid for the SEC without Alabama, Auburn, and Mississippi State playing in Hoover. The conference hoped that attendance would not drop too sharply but it has thus far compared to events in the past the attendance is way off.

Georgia and Florida might, by guess, have had about 2,000 in the stands. The Hoover Met holds about 10,000. ---

David Perno was going for his 100th career win today. However, he will have to wait for the NCAA Regionals for that opportunity.
