BATON ROUGE, La. - Georgia quarterback David Greene will have an MRI today to determine the extent of the damage to his right knee, but he doesn't expect to get any bad news, he said Saturday.

"It could be some kind of sprained something," he said. "We just know it's nothing major."

David Greene was injured in the third quarter of No. 7 Georgia's 17-10 loss to LSU on Saturday. The injury scared him and most of the Bulldog Nation.

"The defensive lineman got blocked into my leg," he said. "I felt it popping, and it just went kind of numb. I was scared because I'd never felt that before."

Greene lay on the Tiger Stadium turf for several minutes before getting up and waving away the trainers who offered to assist him to the sideline. He quickly regained feeling in his lower leg and returned to the game after missing two series.

All-American defensive end David Pollack also got a scare when he went down clutching his right knee with 11:26 left in the third quarter. Pollack suffered a bruised kneecap, Coach Mark Richt said, and returned to the game after missing just two plays. Two plays after returning, he got his first sack of the season when he and Quentin Moses took down Matt Mauck.

Greene's injury is more serious than Pollack's, Richt said.

LOTS OF TYSON: Running back Tyson Browning said he wasn't surprised to be such a big part of Saturday's game plan even though it was his first game action since serving a three-game suspension.

"Coach Richt has a lot of confidence in me," he said. "He told me to get ready."

Browning carried the ball three times for 20 yards and caught two passes for 104 yards, including the 93-yard touchdown catch that tied the score at 10-10 in the fourth quarter. Browning's touchdown tied two plays for the longest score from scrimmage in school history. One of those plays was the historic Buck Belue-to-Lindsay Scott touchdown against Florida in 1980.

"Right now I'm not even thinking about the way I played," Browning said. "I'm thinking about getting back and getting another 'W'."

TIPPED PASSES: LSU made it tough on Georgia's quarterbacks all day by batting down passes at the line of scrimmage. Tigers defensive linemen were credited with six pass breakups, and linebacker Lionel Turner's key fourth-down interception came on a tipped pass.

"They're a big defensive front," Richt said.

THORNTON MEETS CHALLENGE: LSU's standout wide receiver Michael Clayton, the SEC's leading receiver, caught just two passes for 23 yards in the win. Most of the time, he was being covered by senior cornerback Bruce Thornton.

"Bruce played outstanding," defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder said. "He was looking forward to the competition all week."

SHOCKLEY'S DAY: For the first time this season, backup quarterback D.J. Shockley didn't play in the first half.

It appeared Shockley wouldn't play at all until Greene was injured and missed two series. Richt said he didn't have a definite plan for Shockley's playing time and it just didn't work out to get him in the game in the first half.

CURRY RETURNS: Safety Kentrell Curry, a preseason All-SEC selection, return to action after missing the first three games of the season due to a stress fracture in his leg.

Curry was on the field late in the first quarter when Sean Jones intercepted Mauck, and Curry appeared on occasional plays after that.

EARNING HIS HONORS: Georgia punter Gordon Ely-Kelso, the reigning SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, didn't rest on his laurels Saturday. He punted six times in the first three quarters and the most impressive were the final two. First, he booted a 47-yard kick out of the back of Georgia's end zone, and then he hit a 51-yarder from the front of the end zone.

THIS AND THAT: Greene's interception in the fourth quarter was his first in 176 attempts, tying a school record. ...

Starting linebacker Tony Taylor suffered a right ankle injury with 8:16 left in the first quarter. He returned in the fourth quarter. ...

Midway through the third quarter, Georgia's Decory Bryant and Tim Jennings went to the wrong end of the field to receive a Tiger kickoff. ...

LSU honored Georgia athletic director Vince Dooley during the break between the first and second quarters. Tigers athletic director Skip Bertman presented Dooley with a crystal tiger in an on-field ceremony.
