GEORGIA 30, SOUTH CAROLINA 7
FIRST QUARTER
Georgia's first trip to the red zone was quite familiar: a field goal, thanks to
a procedure penalty nullifying a TD pass to Reggie Brown. The defense started
out hot by giving up some yardage and third-down conversions before holding off
USC thanks in part to QB hurries by Michael DiFiore and Thomas Davis. A fake
punt gained 24 yards, but USC's drive stopped on Sean Jones first interception
of the day.
Key stat: Georgia rushed for 78 yards, nine more yards than USC had in total
offense.
Scoring G - Billy Bennett 24 field goal, 11:02. Drive: 10 plays, 77 yards, 3:58.
Key plays: Reggie Brown 11 pass from David Greene on third-and-5; Michael Cooper
42 run; procedure penalty nullifies TD pass from Greene to Brown on
third-and-goal.

SECOND QUARTER
The Bulldog defense continued to whip the Gamecocks. A Thomas Davis sack stymied
one drive, and even after USC benefited from a roughing-the-passer call, the
Gamecocks couldn't do anything, Tony Taylor picking off a pass in the red zone.
Jones waited out a soft pass by backup quarterback Michael Rathe for another
pick to set up a late touchdown.
Key stat: The Gamecocks ran 18 plays in the quarter, but Georgia's defense held
them to just 29 yards.
Scoring G - Brown 5 pass from Greene (Bennett kick), 2:11. Drive: 8 plays, 37
yards, 2:11. Key plays: Jones interception; Brown 15 pass from Greene after
12-yard loss on sack; Brown 21 pass from Greene on third-and-11.

THIRD QUARTER
South Carolina had to resort to running QB Pinkins most of the time, since he
struggled to complete many passes and the running game otherwise wasn't working.
Jones' stick of Kenny Irons stopped USC on a fourth-and-1, and the Dogs sealed
it with an efficient scoring drive.
Key stat: USC nearly doubled its offensive output with 82 yards in the period.
G - Cooper 2 run (Bennett kick), :40. Drive: 9 plays, 69 yards, 2:39. Key plays:
Jones stops USC's Irons on fourth-and-1; Ronnie Powell 16 run on second-and-15;
Brown 26 pass from Greene on third-and-6.

FOURTH QUARTER
Georgia wisely began putting backups in, and that's why the shutout died with
less than a minute left. A USC field goal try hit the upright with 9:44 left,
and soon the Gamecocks had their third-string quarterback on the field. A pass
interference call kept alive the final drive, Georgia's reserves missing tackles
on two big plays. Damien Gary's return of a squib kick was icing.
Key stat: South Carolina almost doubled its total offense in the quarter with
170 yards on 22 snaps, more than half of that coming on the scoring drive
engineered by the No. 3 QB.
USC - Demetris Summers 37 pass from Bennett Swygert (Daniel Weaver kick), :52.
Drive: 5 plays, 89 yards, 2:30. Key plays: Georgia pass interfernece on
third-and-5; Matthew Thomas 48 pass from Swygert.
