Fast Five: Dawg Day is Here

ATHENS – Georgia’s biggest recruiting event of the year will be a little longer this year.

What was Dawg Night is now Dawg Day – two camps on one day. “We’ve split the day up by ages,” coach Mark Richt said. “It is huge. Recruiting is so critically important for the program. It is a big night for us. My guess is that there will be a lot of great players.”

That’s a pretty good guess.

Richt didn’t expand on which players would be there, but a slew of high-level prospects are expected in Athens on Friday including Trenton Thompson, Rashad Roundtree and Terry Godwin, who committed to the Dawgs earlier this year.

Those prospects are all considered top 100 prospects by Scout.com for the class of 2015.

But fans should keep an eye on the Bulldogs possibly flipping of high-level commitments from other schools to Georgia during Dawg Day. Florida State OL commit Cole Minshew decided not to visit Georgia for the event, and says that he is now fully committed to Florida State. But Alabama DL commit Jonathan Ledbetter has flirted with Georgia over the last few months. It would not be surprising for either to flip to the Bulldogs on Friday.

In addition, two top 2016 prospects will be visiting for Dawg Day – Central Gwinnett OL E.J. Price and Lake Stevens (Wa.) QB Jacob Eason will both take part in the event. Eason is considered the #5 2016 QB in the country by Scout.com and has offers from virtually every program in the country.
