Four Arrested on Misdemeanor Charges

ATHENS – Four football players were picked up on theft by deception charges Monday night.

Starting safety Tray Matthews and three reserve players have been arrested on misdemeanor theft by deception charges according to the Athens Clarke County jail report. Uriah LeMay, James DeLoach and Jonathan Taylor were were the other three players arrested on Monday night.

The arrests come the night before Georgia starts 2014 spring practice on Tuesday.

Matthews started six games for the Bulldogs in 2013 and played in eight games. He was sidelined by a hamstring injury at times in the 2013 season.

Taylor appeared in ten games in 2013 for the Bulldogs. He had a sack in Georgia's win over Appalachian State. DeLoach played in five games in 2013, but 13 in 2012. He struggled with injuries during the 2013 season. Both signed with the Bulldogs out of Jenkins County in 2012.

LeMay signed in 2013, but redshirted in the fall. His brother, Christian, left the program with winter after being a reserve quarterback.

The three arrests were first reported by the Athens Banner-Herald.

Sports information director Claude Felton did not immediately comment on the situation. It is unknown what, if any, on-field punishment the four will suffer. In the past Mark Richt has suspended players one game for an arrest. Georgia's first game is against Clemson.
