Davidson Flys Past Dawgs

Charleston, S.C. – Georgia's basketball season has gotten off to a disappointing start.

The Bulldogs lost 94-82 to Davidson Thursday night handing Georgia a losing record (1-2) and giving the Wildcats (1-3) their first win of the season.

Georgia's season gets no easier as the Bulldogs will face another challenging game between the loser of the Clemson-Temple game Friday night at 7 PM.

"We could not defend them without sending them to the free throw line," coach Mark Fox said after the game.

Davidson converted 34 of 41 free throw attempts and got balanced scoring from De'Mon Brooks (21), Brian Sullivan (20) and Jordan Barham (18) to give the Wildcats the more points than they have scored in since the 2011-12 season.

"94 points is staggering about – they got 34 on the free thrown line. We are just not a good enough defensive team," Fox said. "We've got a bunch of first-year players who are going to have to grow up in the fire."

Davison used 14-6 run to close the first half to grab the momentum for good in the contest. The game was tied 30-30 after Nemanja Djurisic score two of his team-high 19 points with 6:01 to play in the game.

"I thought Nemi played pretty well," Fox said of Djurisic's play. "Our offensive numbers were pretty good tonight, but we just didn't have enough free throw opportunities."

Davidson outrebounded the Bulldogs 36-29, and Georgia turned the ball over 16 times to the Wildcats' five.

"Our backs were against the wall, and I am really proud we played against an SEC team," Davidson coach Bob McKillop said after the game.
