Off Week: Dawgs Practice in Full Pads Again

Posted Sep 11, 2013

ATHENS - For the second day in a row Georgia conducted a 90-minute workout in full pads Wednesday.

“We got a lot of work done with two practices in pads this week,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “It was lively out there. It was nice and warm, and at the end, we ran a couple of eight-play drives, a scrimmage with some of the guys that didn’t get to play much in our first two games. We gave them an opportunity to play this week and see what they can do.”

When asked about the play of junior linebacker Amarlo Herrera to date, Richt said he is proud of him. Herrera leads the Southeastern Conference in tackles with 24. In Georgia’s win over sixth-ranked South Carolina last Saturday in Athens, Herrera posted a team-high 12 stops and forced a fumble.

“Amarlo has worked hard to get leaner, quicker, and it’s paying off,” said Richt. “He is being rewarded for the work that he has put in, and he’s a good leader for us too.”

Georgia (1-1) enjoys an open date this Saturday before it plays host to North Texas on Sept 21. SEC TV will broadcast the contest nationally, with kickoff schedule for 12:12 p.m. ET.

North Texas is 1-1 on the year after falling 27-21 on the road to Ohio last week. On Saturday, they face Ball State in Denton, Texas. The Mean Green opened the season with a 40-6 victory over Idaho.
