Parrish Picks Georgia

Georgia's class of 2014 seems to be taking off in the middle of the summer.

Malkom Parish, a two-way star for Brooks County, committed to the Bulldogs on Thursday. He was also considering playing quarterback for Georgia Tech, but decided to pursue playing cornerback instead after a long talk with his high school coach Maurice Freeman.

"We just talked about his future in college and beyond that," Freeman said. "I think we both understand that him playing cornerback is better for his future."

The appeal of playing quarterback in Tech's triple-option offense was appealing to Parrish. But if his highlight show at the Mark Richt Camp on Saturday is any indicator, Parrish has a bright future in the secondary.

"He is an elite playmaker," Fox Sports NEXT recruiting analyst Chad Simmons said of Parrish. "He's very physical, which is a real strength of his. He's strong at the line of scrimmage and can knock receivers off their routes."

Parrish called the Georgia coaching staff after a morning workout session with his high school team in Quitman. He's considered a four-star prospect, and the #21 overall cornerback in the country.

The move also caps a good week for the bulldogs on the recruiting trail. Georgia has nearly doubled its list of committed players since Saturday. The list of committed Bulldogs is becoming a small, but good class, too. More than half of Georgia's committed players so far are listed as four-star prospects or better. The Bulldogs also have commitments from the top running back in both Georgia and Florida.
