Mississippi State goes into the last game of the regular SEC schedule down another player. And in Jalen Steele’s case it is the second time he has been sidelined by injury. Examination today showed the junior guard has a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee.

Steele, who missed eight games in November and December after cracking his right wrist, suffered this injury Wednesday evening at South Carolina. He was hurt in the second half of Mississippi State’s 79-72 loss and left under his own power. Steele had scored 17 points before the injury.

Steele was averaging 10.1 points for the 18 games he has played, best on the team. His 9.9 point SEC average is second-best, as is his 20 three-point goals in 14 league games. This despite missing three February games due to suspension.

This is the third injury setback of his career. Late in his freshman season Steele went down in a home game against LSU with a torn ACL in the left knee.

State hosts Auburn this Saturday at 4:30. Ironically, Steele was recruited by Auburn out of high school, then signed with Mississippi State after a coaching change there.
