LSU holds on to nip Vandy, 57-56

Freshman Malik Morgan had nine points.

After running out to a double-digit lead, the Tigers held on late to win their third straight game and fourth in five contests at the PMAC Wednesday night.

After starting 0-4 in league play, LSU and Johnny Jones will take wins any way they can get them.

It wasn't always pretty Wednesday night inside the PMAC, but the Tigers were able to eke out a 57-56 win, thwarting a late Vanderbilt run after LSU had gone up 13 at the half.

Point guard Anthony Hickey led the way for the home team with 14 points. The sophomore also had seven rebounds and five assists.

Johnny O'Bryant chipped in with 10 points, but the power forward fell short of his sixth straight double-double, finishing with five rebounds.

LSU improves to 13-7 overall, 4-5 in the SEC, while winning its third straight game (fourth in five contests) and fanning the flames of talk surrounding a potential NIT berth following the regular season.

Vanderbilt drops to 8-13, 2-7, despite a game-high 20 points from Rob Odom, who buried three triples real late in the ballgame to keep the visiting Commodores within striking distance.
