Alabama wide receiver Kenny Bell, who broke his leg six weeks ago but has been practicing everyday for the last week, keeps getting asked if he's going to play in Monday's national championship game. But his guess is just as good as yours.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—Kenny Bell has no idea if he’s playing in Monday’s BCS National Championship game or not.

The junior wide receiver, who broke a bone in the lower part of his left leg against Auburn six weeks ago, has made quite a fast recovery and has been practicing with the team for a week now.

“It’s the No. 1 question everybody’s been asking,” Bell told a few reporters during Alabama’s Media Day session at Sun Life Stadium Saturday morning. “Everything happens for a reason. You gotta talk to the coaches and the trainers about my injury though because how I feel and what they feel are two different things.”

Before getting injured, Bell was A.J. McCarron’s go-to deep threat. He had 17 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns. He still leads the team with 25.35 yards per catch.

At practice, Bell wears a black non-contact jersey, but has been participating in all drills and running routes in what appears to be close to full speed. Thursday during the media viewing period, Bell made a nice catch and McCarron yelled, “Look at No. 7! Put him in the game, coach!”

“If they say I can go, it’ll be a shock to me and if they say I can’t, I’ll be shocked, too,” Bell said. “I don’t know just like the world don’t know.

“But I’m gonna be a leader on the sidelines for our young receivers that haven’t been in this situation before. I’m going to motivate them and let them know that even though we’re playing on a big stage, it’s just another team that’s in the way of what we’re trying to do.”

It’s no secret Bell wants to play and he’s been working hard to get healthy so he can. So what’s allowed him to make such a quick comeback?

“I’m a competitor, you know,” he said. “Hard work, dedication, staying up and praying, looking at some things Adrian Peterson did, listening to my mom and drinking milk.”
