The Auburn women's basketball team picked up its seventh victory of the season with a road victory vs. George Washington.

Washington, D.C.--Sophomore guard Hasina Muhammad just missed posting a triple-double as the Auburn women’s basketball team held off a comeback by George Washington to take a 69-59 road win on Wednesday night.

Muhammad led the Tigers with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals as Auburn improved its record to 7-2. She hit 8-15 field goals and 5-9 free throws.

The nine steals rank are the fourth most for a single game in AU history and the most since Kristen "K.K." Mulligan had 10 vs. Northeast Illinois on Dec. 18, 1992.

Senior forward Blanche Alverson scored 14 points, including a clutch three-pointer late in the game to thwart a comeback by the home team.

Senior point guard Jet Ouardad added 10 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Tigers.

Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy was less than happy with her players, who seemed to be in control of the contest until giving up a 16-0 run by the home team in the second half.

Sisters Tyrese Tanner and Tra’cee Tanner added eight points apiece for the Tigers.

“I thought we made some terrible mistakes that were costly,” Williams-Flournoy said. “We made dumb fouls, fouling people when they were shooting, not boxing out and giving up three-point plays, leaving the middle wide-open in the press so they can catch it in the middle and throw to the kid in the corner shooting the three. Everything we worked on not to do, we did wrong.”

On the plus side the first-year Auburn coach noted it is always good to win on the road.

"What better place to get the win than back here in Washington, D.C.,” said Williams-Flournoy, who spent her first eight years as a head coach in Washington, D.C., at Georgetown.

“I really did not think about it," she added. "When you think about all the accolades and everything you get as a coach, you really don’t remember them when it is game time. Our most important thing was to win the ball game."

George Washington, which fell to 4-5 with the loss, was led by Shi-Heria Shipp, who scored 12 points and added 11 rebounds.

The Tigers led 36-23 at halftime after out-shooting the home team 46.9 percent to 29.0 percent. However, the Colonials cut the lead to 45-43 at the 11:13 mark and stayed in striking range until the closing minute.

The Tigers overcame poor foul shooting to earn the win. They made just 13-26 attempts. From the field Auburn shot 40 percent, making 28-65 field goals and 4-10 threes.

GW hit 32.3 percent from the field but made 7-15 threes, which helped spark the second half comeback. The Colonials were 12-19 at the foul line.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. home game vs. Temple.
