Reports are surfacing that new Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops has his first staff member in place. Kentucky Scout has the latest.
It’s not surprising that Mark Stoops is looking in familiar places for assistant coaches. All coaches do it. Stoops has offered his Defensive Coordinator position to former staff-mate, Florida State Defensive Ends Coach D.J. Eliot.
The new Wildcat coach indicated in his opening press conference that he had his defensive coordinator targeted and ready to go. He refused to comment on who that person was at the time. But there have been several indications for days that Eliot was the target.
Eliot and Stoops have a long standing relationship going back to their time at Wyoming when Eliot was a player and a student assistant.
Eliot, known as an ace recruiter as well, has had stops at Texas State (LB Coach), Tulsa (LB Coach), Rice (DL Coach and Recruiting Coordinator) and most recently the last three seasons at Florida State.
Eliot’s recruiting ties are heavy in central Florida, southeast Georgia and Texas. He also has some ties to the Atlanta area.
He has helped to tutor several quality players on the Seminole defensive line including Brandon Jenkins, Bjoern Werner and Cornelius Carradine.
Kentucky Scout will have more on D.J. Eliot as the information becomes available.
