Drew making gains at defense end

Georgia's Ray Drew is getting stronger after an offseason position change.

Defensive end Ray Drew changed positions from outside linebacker in the offseason, and while there’s been a learning curve, the sophomore feels he’s improving each week.

“With school, football and everything altogether, everything is going great,” said Drew. “I feel myself getting stronger and becoming a better player.”

Drew has recorded five tackles this season and at least one each game. Still, his role — and his playing time — changes week-to-week.

“Things vary from week to week,” Drew said. “We look at the offense we’re going against and we install different things. We try to plan for that offense. Each week it changes, and that is the biggest challenge with learning this defense.”

A defensive end in high school at Thomas County Central, Drew sees progress in his game since making the switch from linebacker.

“Since I’ve come in, since I’ve changed positions, and up to this point, I’m more comfortable with the plays and knowing what to do,” Drew said.
