ATHENS – Georgia offensive lineman Kolton Houston will not play football in the near future according to coach Mark Richt.

Houston was tabbed as the Bulldogs’ starting right tackle coming into fall camp. However, he has yet to play for Georgia since signing with the program in 2010, but has failed multiple tests administered for the NCAA.

"Kolton's family asked if we would make some thing avalible," Richt said holding up a stack of papers in his left hand. "It is fairly technical stuff. We've been waiting for the moment when the NCAA will clear Kolton, and that's not come. He's been tested, probably, more than anyone in college football. We are certain he has not taken this thing."

RIcht indicated Houston could still play for the Bulldogs, but that he would have to provide a clean test for the NCAA. The coach did not say when the timetable for that would occur. Richt said Georgia's medical staff would be made available to the media after the press conference concluded.

Richt said Watts Datzler will replace Houston at the start of camp with John Theus backing him up.

The loss of Houston is another off-season blow for the Bulldogs, who have lost or has suspended multiple players due to off-the-field violations. The most notable dismissal from the team was star running back Isaiah Crowell, who was arrested on felony gun charges in June. He was kicked off the team the same day as his arrest.
