The Detroit Lions signed veteran safety Sean Jones to a one-year contract, a move that follows his visit in May first reported by Scout. To create a roster spot for Jones, undrafted rookie free agent safety Sam Proctor was cut.

Jones, 30, is a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter who registered 92 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble last season.

A former Cleveland Browns second-round draft pick, Jones started for the Buccaneers for the past two seasons.

During his stint with the Browns, he was their starting strong safety and recorded 263 tackles with 14 interceptions. Jones has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder from the University of Georgia has 513 career tackles, 17 interceptions, four sacks and three forced fumbles and 35 pass deflections.
