Saturday Workouts Critical for Charles

INDIANAPOLIS – Orson Charles began considering his early entry into the NFL late in his junior year.

The impact of New England Patriots tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez is what finally convinced him to make the move, he told the media assembled here this week for the NFL Combine.

"I feel like I can do the same things so that's why I made my decision to come out," he said.

Charles, a Florida native, hopes to be the first tight end taken in April's NFL Draft and his workouts here on Saturday will go a long way toward determining if that's a realistic possibility.

NFLDraftScout.com lists Charles as the third-best tight end this season, behind Clemson's Dwayne Allen and Stanford's Coby Fleener.

"It means a lot, but at the end of the day that doesn't matter, what matters is that I get a chance and play," he said. "I am just going to do the drills and leave it in God's hands."
