ATHENS – Kenny Gaines has a lot of confidence in the future of Georgia basketball.

Charles Mann called to congratulate Gaines of his commitment, and the duo started talking about the future.

"We feel like this class could be mighty strong. We could be the class that could take Georgia all the way," he said.

Gaines, a shooting guard from Whitefield Academy, commitment to Georgia today - making him the second commitment of Mark Fox’s 2012 class.

“I have decided to take my talents to Athens, and join the Bulldogs at the University of Georgia,” he told his twitter followers.

In an interview with Dawg Post, Gaines said Georgia's persistance recruiting him was a major reason he decided to go with the Dawgs.

"Coach Fox was one of the only coaches that was at most of my games, and I just felt comfortable with him and the staff at Georgia. I felt like they were the first to recruit me, and they never put me on the back burner," Gaines said.

"The thing I like about Coach Fox is his ambition," Gaines added.

Gaines committed to Bulldogs, shortly after narrowing his list to Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, Iowa and Georgia Tech. He is considered a three-star prospect by Scout.com and is considered the #21 shooting guard in the country.

Gaines said Mann was excited about the backcourt the duo could form

"Charles told me it would be a good look in the backcourt if we were both there.," Gaines said.

Scout.com national basketball analyst Evan Daniels says the Bulldogs are getting a solid scorer in Gaines.

“He’s an athletic guard, who was a major factor for the loaded Georgia Stars this year,” Scout.com national basketball analyst Evan Daniels says of Gaines. “He spent time on and off the ball and was effective as a scorer – and was effective at times as a distributor.”
