ATHENS - In the wake of Caleb King's departure from UGA, Richard Samuel has been moved to tailback.

Richard Samuel, who played tailback his first two seasons, had been moved to inside linebacker in the spring of 2010.

Injuries forced him to redshirt last year.

With the departure of both Caleb King and Washaun Ealey this offseason creating depth concerns, Coach Mark Richt announced Thursday Samuel is returning to tailback.

"After discussions with Richard, his family, and our coaches I'm excited that Richard wants to make the move," Richt said. "He's one of our fastest and most powerful players, is very mature, has a strong character and is a man we can count on. I'm proud of him for always putting the team first and I look forward to seeing what he can do."

"I'm excited about the opportunity at tailback," said Samuel. "I'm ready to do anything that will help the team win."

Samuel played 22 games at tailback, making six starts. He rushed 114 times for 528 yards and three touchdowns.
