ATHENS – A promising offensive lineman is no longer with Georgia.

Sophomore Brent Benedict is leaving Georgia. It is unclear the specific reason why he left Georgia, but it seems the recovery from his often-injured knee is likely the reason he has decided to leave.

Benedict could not be immediately reached for comment, but left the Athens area sometime last week to think about his future and returned recently to move out for good according to those close to the situation. He still plans on playing college football - just not at Georgia.

Benedict was listed as a backup guard after spring practice. He was a four-star prospect in Georgia’s class of 2010. Benedict was considered one of the top prep players in the state of Florida – playing at the Bolles School in Jacksonville.

Benedict is the second offensive lineman to leave Georgia since school ended earlier this year. A.J. Harmon transferred to Alabama State.

Benedict recently spoke with Dawg Post and said that he felt like he was on the path to playing again soon

“The only issue now is the nerve growth, which is causing me to have part of my foot that still has no feeling whatsoever, and I’ve still got a strength issue in my ankle. But I was able to brace it up in the spring, and it was good,” he said.
