Boykin Runs Another Back
Brandon Boykin

LEXINGTON — Brandon Boykin’s first-half kickoff return for a touchdown put him in some pretty esteemed company.

It was the fourth kick return touchdown for Boykin, tying him for the SEC record. Boykin now shares it with Tennessee’s Willie Gault and ArkansasFelix Jones, both of whom went on to NFL careers.

Boykin’s return on Saturday was for 100 yards, the third time he has done that.

His other touchdown return was for 81 yards in last year’s Independence Bowl.

Banks makes trip

Senior Quintin Banks was given a spot on the travel roster despite his career being over. Banks, a defensive back, decided in August to stop playing because of chronic knee injuries.

The Bulldogs have honored the popular Banks by having a different senior wear his No. 31 jersey each game. On Saturday, it was fullback Shaun Chapas.

But Banks was also there, his first road trip of the season, and led the team in the pregame huddle.

Smith, Williams out

As expected, cornerback and punt returner Branden Smith (concussion) and safety Nick Williams (hamstring) did not make the trip.

Smith missed a third straight game and his fourth of the season. The sophomore suffered his second concussion of the season at Colorado on Oct. 2 and hasn’t played since. He also missed the Arkansas game after sustaining his first concussion.

Williams was out for a second straight game. He pulled his hamstring during the Tennessee game on Oct. 9.

Houston keeps on sacking

Georgia’s Justin Houston started the day as the SEC’s leading sacker. He spent the first half adding to the total and setting a career high.

Houston had 1.5 sacks, giving him eight for the season. He had 7.5 last year as a sophomore.

Houston was credited with a full sack and split another with DeAngelo Tyson. The split caused Kentucky’s first fumble, leading to Georgia’s first touchdown.

Line juggled again

After a two-game benching, Josh Davis returned to Georgia’s starting lineup at right tackle. Clint Boling, who started at that spot the past two games, shifted back to left tackle, where he started the first five games.

Trinton Sturdivant came off the bench after starting the past two games at left tackle. Freshman Kenarious Gates started for the third straight game at right guard.
